The whole country in one private trip, in the direction you choose. Go long from Saigon up to Hanoi, or short the map from the north down. Long travel days fall on weekends when your dates allow, so the market barely notices you moved.

What does a day on this trip look like?
Guided sights in the morning, a long café afternoon among locals, then your desk for the sessions you trade. Vietnam is UTC+7, so the markets that matter open after lunch.
A new city wakes up
Every stop has its own morning ritual. You will see eight.
Out with your guide
The big sight of the day, done before the heat and the crowds.
Café hours
Salt coffee in Hue, egg coffee in Hanoi, a pine-hill view in Da Lat.
London
At a desk we checked in every town.
Move
The long drives, the train and flights, when markets are shut.
Times move an hour earlier from late March, when London and New York change their clocks. Live converter in our forex hours in Vietnam guide.
Where do you go each day?
Each day has one guided plan, then free hours with a café we like and a look at how people here live and spend now. Green is your free time, gold is local life, purple is your desk.
Days1–2Saigon: the money city
Ho Chi Minh City · 2 nights
Arrive and settle into Thao Dien. A Vespa food tour one night, a short District 1 morning the next: Ben Thanh, the old post office, the Reunification Palace.
The café apartment block at 42 Nguyen Hue, nine floors of small cafés over the walking street.
People checking the VN-Index in every café and queues at the gold shops on busy days: Saigon is a city that watches its money.
London from 15:00, New York from 20:30 at a desk we have checked for fibre and backup. Skip either one; nothing else on the day depends on it.
Days3–5Da Lat: pine hills at 1,500 m
Saigon → Da Lat · 3 nights
Limousine van up to the highlands (about 7 hours with stops, or a 50-minute flight if you prefer). Then cool mornings by Xuan Huong Lake, the flower farms and a waterfall, and evenings under a blanket.
A hillside view café above the valley. Da Lat runs on coffee grown a few hours away, and the cafés are built for sitting for hours.
The greenhouses on every slope grow the flowers and vegetables the whole country eats. The night market sells warm soy milk and grilled rice paper, called Da Lat pizza by everyone under 30.
London from 15:00, New York from 20:30 at a desk we have checked for fibre and backup. Skip either one; nothing else on the day depends on it.
Days6–7Da Nang: beach and bridges
Da Lat → Da Nang · 2 nights
Short flight to the coast. Sunrise swim with the locals on My Khe, the Marble Mountains and Lady Buddha on Son Tra.
43 Factory Coffee Roaster, where the city's remote workers keep office hours.
Pickleball courts full at 6 a.m., the beach full again at 17:00, and on weekend nights the Dragon Bridge breathes fire at 21:00.
London from 15:00, New York from 20:30 at a desk we have checked for fibre and backup. Skip either one; nothing else on the day depends on it.
Days8–10Hoi An: lanterns and tailors
Da Nang → Hoi An · 3 nights
Basket boats through the coconut palms, a bike ride through the rice fields, a tailor, and the old town after dark.
Reaching Out Tea House, a silent tea house where you order on a notepad.
Old town families still live behind their shop counters, and the riverside market sets its prices with the first boats.
London from 15:00, New York from 20:30 at a desk we have checked for fibre and backup. Skip either one; nothing else on the day depends on it.
Days11–12Hue: the imperial city
Hoi An → Hai Van Pass → Hue · 2 nights
Open jeep over the Hai Van Pass, the coast road Top Gear made famous, with a stop at the top. In Hue, the Citadel and the royal tombs along the Perfume River.
Cà phê muối, salt coffee, invented in Hue. Order it where it started and judge for yourself.
Hue eats a spicy bún bò Huế for breakfast and still takes its afternoon nap seriously. The city goes quiet at 13:00 and comes back at 15:00.
London from 15:00, New York from 20:30 at a desk we have checked for fibre and backup. Skip either one; nothing else on the day depends on it.
Days13–14Ninh Binh: karsts and rice
Hue → Ninh Binh by train · 2 nights
The North-South Reunification train, a long daytime ride or the sleeper, timed for a weekend. Then e-bikes to Hang Mua viewpoint and a rowboat through Tam Coc.
Coffee on the homestay porch with rice fields out front and limestone behind.
The rowers in Tam Coc steer with their feet. Most are women from the villages along the river, taking turns on a rota the whole commune shares.
London and New York on the non-travel day. The homestay is chosen for its fibre, not just its view.
Day15Ha Long Bay: screens off
Ninh Binh → Ha Long · overnight on the cruise
Car to the bay and on board by lunch. Kayaks, a cave and dinner on deck.
Coffee on the sundeck between the islands.
Floating fish and oyster farms, run by families who once lived on the water full time.
Wi-Fi at sea is patchy. One night without a chart in 17 days will not hurt.
Day16Hanoi: last night in the Old Quarter
Ha Long → Hanoi · 1 night
Sunrise tai chi on deck, brunch on the way back to port, car to Hanoi. Street-food walk in the evening.
Egg coffee at Cafe Giang, Hanoi's answer to the salt coffee you had in Hue.
The gold shops and money changers on Ha Trung street, and bia hơi corners full of office workers by 18:00.
New York from 20:30, or a farewell dinner.
Day17Morning lake, then home
Hanoi → departure
Hoan Kiem at 6 a.m. for the city's morning exercise, then private car to Noi Bai.
Shorting the map instead? The same trip runs Hanoi to Saigon, with Ha Long first and the Saigon cafés as your finish.

Questions before you book.
Go long or short the map: which direction is better?
Both work. Saigon to Hanoi (go long) ends with the bay and the Old Quarter. Hanoi to Saigon (short the map) ends warm, with the Saigon cafés. In winter, finishing in the south means finishing in the sun.
Can I trade on a 17-day trip that moves this much?
Yes, on most evenings. The long moves (Saigon to Da Lat, Hue to Ninh Binh) are placed on weekends when your dates allow, and the cruise night is screens off. Your written plan marks every desk night.
Can I shorten it?
Yes. Drop Da Lat or Ninh Binh and it becomes 12 to 14 days. Every trip is private, so the plan follows your dates.
Will I travel with strangers?
No. Every Signature Journey is private, from one traveller, on the dates you choose. It is you, the people you bring, your guide and your driver.
I want a real holiday with no trading. Does this still work?
Yes. Tell us and we drop the desk nights and fill the afternoons instead. You still sleep in rooms with fast, reliable internet for the moment you want to check something.
How do I book, and what if I need to cancel?
Send a brief and you get a written day-by-day plan with named hotels and a price per person within 48 hours. Once you approve it, a 30% deposit holds your dates and the rest is paid when you arrive. Cancellation is free up to 45 days before you travel.
