Is Da Nang or Hoi An better for traders?

Da Nang is the better trading base and Hoi An is the better place to live outside the sessions. A simple split: trade from Da Nang on weekdays and spend the weekend in Hoi An.

Why is Da Nang the easier base on trading days?

Because the things a trader depends on are simpler there: modern buildings with fibre and backup power, a choice of desks and coworking, Grab everywhere, and the airport inside the city.

  • Connection: fibre is standard in newer apartments and hotels. Still ask for an evening speed test and keep a second route; see our eSIM and SIM guide for traders.
  • Mornings: My Khe is a proper swimming beach, busy with locals at sunrise, a few minutes from most rooms.
  • Sessions: London at 15:00 and New York at 20:00 in winter (14:00 and 19:00 in summer). The full table is in forex market hours in Vietnam.
  • Where to stay: our Da Nang for traders guide compares My An, Son Tra and the city centre.

What's the catch with trading from Hoi An?

Two things: the room and the clock. Rooms vary more, so the desk and fibre need checking, and Hoi An's best hours, the lantern-lit evenings, are exactly when London and New York are open.

In winter the overlap runs from 20:00 to midnight in Vietnam, which is the hour the old town is at its most beautiful. If you trade the overlap every night from Hoi An, you'll see the lanterns from your window. That's why we'd rather spend the trading week in Da Nang and keep Hoi An for the weekend, when markets are closed and the evenings are yours. If you do base in Hoi An, choose a hotel near the river with a generator, and trade London rather than the late New York hours.

How should a trader split a week between them?

Sunday to Friday in Da Nang, Friday night to Sunday in Hoi An. You trade from the easier base and spend the market-free hours in the prettier town.

When should I go, and what about the floods?

February to May is the best time for both. October and November are the flood season on the central coast, when Hoi An's old town often floods; in those months Da Nang is the safer base.

Floods matter more to a trader than to a tourist, because they take out power and roads, not just plans. Our November guide covers where to base instead this month.

How do I get between Hoi An and Da Nang?

By car: about 30 km, 35 to 50 minutes by Grab, usually 300,000 to 450,000 VND (roughly 12 to 18 USD). A pre-booked private transfer costs a little more and waits for you.

One recent change: since provinces merged on 1 July 2025, Hoi An is officially part of Da Nang city, so a Hoi An hotel address may say Da Nang. On the ground nothing has moved. The full travel comparison, including food and the best things to do, is on our sister site: Hoi An or Da Nang: where to stay.

FAQ

Is Da Nang or Hoi An better for traders?

Da Nang is the easier trading base: more modern hotels and apartments with fibre, the airport 10 to 20 minutes away and a safer base in the October and November rains. Hoi An is the better place to live outside the sessions, especially at weekends. A simple split is trading from Da Nang and spending weekends in Hoi An.

How far is Hoi An from Da Nang?

About 30 km. By Grab car it takes 35 to 50 minutes and usually costs around 300,000 to 450,000 VND, roughly 12 to 18 USD. Da Nang airport serves both.

Is the internet good enough to trade from Hoi An?

Many Hoi An hotels have good fibre, but the town leans towards boutique hotels and homestays where quality varies. Ask for an evening speed test and a photo of the desk before booking, and keep a mobile hotspot as backup.

Can I trade from Hoi An in October or November?

It's the flood season, and Hoi An's old town floods in many years, which can cut power and roads. If you must travel then, Da Nang is the safer base. February to May is the best time for both.

Is Hoi An part of Da Nang now?

On paper, yes. Since Vietnam merged provinces on 1 July 2025, Hoi An has been part of Da Nang city. On the ground it's still a separate town, so don't be surprised if a Hoi An hotel address says Da Nang.

The bottom line

Trade from Da Nang, live in Hoi An: weekdays by the beach with a reliable desk, weekends in the lantern town with the screens off. Come between February and May, and in the autumn rains keep your base in Da Nang.
