What time are the sessions in each base?
Da Nang, Chiang Mai and Phuket share UTC+7: London opens at 15:00 and New York at 20:00 in winter. Bali is on UTC+8, so everything lands an hour later, and the overlap runs past midnight.
| Base (time zone) | London open | New York open | NFP | Overlap ends |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Da Nang (UTC+7) | 15:00 / 14:00 | 20:00 / 19:00 | 20:30 / 19:30 | 24:00 / 23:00 |

Which base has the best internet and power for trading?
All four have fibre in modern apartments, hotels and coworking spaces, and good 4G or 5G in town. None is immune to the odd outage, so the setup matters more than the city: a wired main line, a mobile backup on a different network and a small UPS for the router.
- Da Nang: newer city, fibre standard in most modern apartments and hotels; storms in the Sep–Dec rainy season are the main risk.
- Chiang Mai: a long-established nomad hub with many coworking spaces around Nimman and the Old City.
- Phuket: good in the main beach towns and resorts; check your exact building, as quality varies by area.
- Bali: coworking spaces in Canggu and Ubud are set up for remote workers; villas vary, so ask for a speed test and whether there's a generator or UPS.
Whichever you choose, ask for an evening speed test before you book and bring a backup. Our trading from Vietnam setup guide applies anywhere in the region, and the eSIM and SIM guide covers the mobile backup.

When is the best time of year for each?
Their good seasons barely overlap. Chiang Mai and Phuket are at their best from November to February, Da Nang from February to August, and Bali from April to October. That makes it easy to move with the weather.
| Base | Best months | Hardest months | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Da Nang | Feb–Aug | Sep–Dec | Rainy season, storms and flood risk |
| Chiang Mai | Nov–Feb | Mar–Apr | Burning-season smoke and heat |
| Phuket | Nov–Apr | May–Oct | Southwest monsoon, rough seas on west-coast beaches |
| Bali | Apr–Oct | Nov–Mar | Rainy season |
The sessions don't move with the weather, so the only question is what you do with your mornings. In Da Nang's dry months that's the beach at 06:00; in Chiang Mai's cool season it's a hike in the hills. More on Vietnam's months in Vietnam in November for traders.
How do airport, visas and cost compare?
Da Nang and Chiang Mai have airports inside or next to the city; Phuket and Bali can mean an hour or more in traffic. Da Nang and Chiang Mai are also the cheapest. Visa rules differ by country and change often.
| Base | Airport to base | Cost | Entry (check for your passport) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Da Nang | 10–20 min (DAD) | $ | 90-day e-visa for every nationality; some passports visa-free |
| Chiang Mai | 15–20 min (CNX) | $ | Thailand visa exemption for many passports; longer remote-work visas exist |
| Phuket | 30–60 min (HKT) | $$ | Same as Chiang Mai (Thailand) |
| Bali (Canggu) | 45–90 min (DPS) | $$ | Indonesia visa on arrival for many passports, extendable |
Cost tiers are relative and depend on how you live. Airport times are typical and grow in rush hour. Visa rules in Thailand and Indonesia have changed several times recently; check the official government sites before you book. Vietnam's are in our e-visa guide for traders.

Which base suits which kind of trader?
Pick by your main session first. London-only traders can live anywhere on this list; overlap and US-data traders sleep better on UTC+7; and traders who want a big community and don't mind 01:00 finishes often choose Bali.
| You mainly trade | Best fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| London only | Any of the four | London opens 15:00–16:00; you're done by early evening |
| The overlap and US data | Da Nang, Chiang Mai | Done by midnight in winter, low cost, close airport |
| Gold around NFP and FOMC | UTC+7 bases | NFP 20:30 instead of 21:30; FOMC 02:00 instead of 03:00 |
| A reset week, little trading | Chiang Mai, Phuket (Nov–Feb), Da Nang (Feb–Aug) | Pick the one in season |
| Community first | Bali, Chiang Mai | The largest nomad and trader meetups |

Why do we run our trips in Da Nang?
Because it puts the things a trader needs closest together: UTC+7 sessions, a city beach for the mornings, the airport 10 to 20 minutes away and Hoi An 40 minutes south for evenings off.
Its dry season starts in February, the tail end of the northern winter, when a week of sun is worth the most. The trade-off is Da Nang's rainy season from September to December, which is why our first Trade & Travel Week is in March. Our Da Nang guide covers where to stay, and Hoi An or Da Nang helps you pick a base within the area.
FAQ
Which is best for forex traders: Bali, Da Nang, Chiang Mai or Phuket?
For trading London and New York, the three UTC+7 bases (Da Nang, Chiang Mai, Phuket) finish an hour earlier than Bali. Da Nang combines that schedule with a city beach, a close airport and low costs; Bali wins on community but means later nights.
Is Bali good for forex trading?
Yes, if you're happy trading late. Bali is on UTC+8, so New York opens at 21:00 in winter and the London and New York overlap runs until 01:00. Traders who mainly trade London often find Bali's schedule comfortable.
Is Chiang Mai or Da Nang better for traders?
Both are on UTC+7 with low costs and close airports. Chiang Mai has the bigger nomad scene and is best from November to February; Da Nang has the beach and is best from February to August. Many traders split the year between them.
When is the best time of year to trade from Phuket?
November to April, the dry season, when seas are calm and days are sunny. From May to October the southwest monsoon brings rain and rough seas on the west coast beaches, though trading hours stay the same.
What time does New York open in Bali, Da Nang, Chiang Mai and Phuket?
In Da Nang, Chiang Mai and Phuket (UTC+7), New York opens at 20:00 from early November to mid-March and 19:00 the rest of the year. In Bali (UTC+8) it opens an hour later: 21:00 and 20:00.
The bottom line
Choose by session first, then season: UTC+7 (Da Nang, Chiang Mai, Phuket) if you trade the overlap, Bali if community matters more than an hour of sleep. Then go where the weather is good that month.
