What is the best time to trade forex from Malaysia?

For most traders, the London and New York overlap: 21:00 to 01:00 in winter and 20:00 to midnight in summer, when liquidity in the majors and gold is usually at its highest. It's also the slot most likely to cost you sleep.

  • London only (16:00–20:00): a real session that finishes before dinner. Good for EUR and GBP pairs, and kind to your sleep.
  • The overlap (21:00–01:00): the most movement, the US data releases, and a late night four or five times a week.
  • Tokyo (08:00–17:00): fits a day job's hours but is usually quieter for the majors; JPY and AUD pairs move most.

When do the session times change in 2026–27?

Four dates move your evening: the UK changes on 25 October 2026 and 28 March 2027, the US on 1 November 2026 and 14 March 2027. In the gaps between them, London and New York are out of step for a week or two.

During those odd weeks the overlap stretches to five hours. Set alerts in New York or London time rather than Malaysia time and they'll stay right. The details of this autumn's change are in US clocks go back on 1 November.

What about Bursa Malaysia hours?

Bursa Malaysia trades in two sessions on weekdays: 09:00 to 12:30 and 14:30 to 17:00 Malaysia time, closed on public holidays. That fits neatly before London opens, so investors who hold local stocks and trade forex can do both in one day.

A typical split for Malaysian traders: Bursa and Tokyo in the day, a break, London at 16:00, and a decision each evening on whether New York is worth the late night. Check Bursa's holiday calendar each year, as festival dates move.

Is Malaysia a good place to trade forex from?

Yes. UTC+8 puts London in the late afternoon and New York in the evening, with excellent infrastructure in Kuala Lumpur and Penang. The trade-off is later nights than in UTC+7 countries such as Vietnam or Thailand.

That one-hour difference is the reason some Malaysian traders take their trading weeks in Vietnam: everything lands an hour earlier, the overlap ends at midnight, and the flight from Kuala Lumpur is short. Our Vietnam session guide shows the same table in UTC+7, and our e-visa guide covers entry. If you want the travel side too, our sister site compares Hoi An and Da Nang as a base.
